by Dr. Stephen Vizzard, PHD., P.S. I haven't written in awhile. I've been very busy helping my clients to cope with the energy that has been surrounding us. One only needs to consider some of the major things that have happened in the last two years to understand how much everyone is struggling. We've had the failure of the overblown "dot.coms", with the resulting ripple effect on jobs and our economy. We've had an extension of the same economic greed in the collapse of Enron, with its staggering impact on retirement portfolios, our economy and our ability to trust the stock market that has been at the heart of our economy. We have gone through what many to believe to be the stealing of the Presidency, with the resulting Administrative support for further profiteering as well as wider ravaging of our environment in the name of business. And then there was September 11th, the ultimate in terrorist extremism and one of the greatest signs that the path that world has been on, a path laced with greed and violence, is one that breeds even more violence and the potential destruction of the world as we have know it. What an overwhelming list! It can be pretty depressing to consider some of the things that have happened in the last several years. An astrologer friend of mine told me recently that she was considering going on antidepressants. She described herself as "a sensitive". That is, one who absorbs, and cannot distance herself from, that which is going on around her. This includes, it seems, the energy that her clients bring into the consultation room and what she describes as "geopolitical energy". In other words, she gets hammered by many things that occur around her, be they in her own neighborhood or places far distant. I can state briefly, that, when she allows herself to go to that place of depression panic and fear, then she is inadvertently (and energetically) feeding the very problem that she is responding to. There are no easy answers to shifting this angry and menacing energy that currently grips the world. When the terrorists flew those planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon September 11th, a part of me rallied around the flag and wanted to strike back. But I kept remembering what one healer that I worked with described as "the Greenpeace Effect". Such insanity as putting spikes in old growth trees so that some hapless logger, just doing his job, would hit a whirring metal chain against the spike and be killed or maimed. What good did it really do to engage in that type of angry retribution, in murder, in order to fight the destruction of ageless beauty? When one strikes back like that, it's the same negative energy as the destruction of our environment by greedy corporations. Or what about the "Christian" who fights abortion, who purports to save the lives of unborn children by assassinating an abortion physician or blowing up a clinic and any victims that happen to be there at the wrong time? The ancient Chinese have a saying: "Society creates the crime and the criminal executes it". While this quote may not be 100% accurate, I believe that it contains the essence. In more modern language, everything (energy, thoughts, etc) ultimately has to be brought into physical form. It is the stuff of the other quote, "Your thoughts create your world". There are some very positive implications to this. But the negative implications are that we are all responsible for creating, and/or contributing to, the craziness that we see around us. Every time that we let ourselves slip into anger, or retribution, or greed, we are casting an energy out into the world that lingers there waiting for the right candidate to come along, scoop it up and then deliver it into physical reality. Conversely, if we are working on staying in our center, staying in our hearts, then we are delivering to the world a powerful force that ripples through everyone with whom we have contact. As small as it may seem, this force, when practiced by more and more people, can become the means by which we change to world. Every person that you impact with this energy can become an instrument for the change that this world so desperately needs. An engineer friend, when told by me of the ancient Chinese philosophy, responded with the smart-ass question, "Does that mean that we all should be in jail?" No. But it does mean that we need to take responsibility for our actions. Or, better stated, for our (energetic) interactions with others. As insignificant as it may sometimes seem, practicing "loving kindness" with everyone we can could make all the difference in turning this world away from the destructive path that it has been on and into a much better place to live.
